Hi all,

A mate of mine has an XF fairlane 4.1L EFI 3spd auto, he has just rebuilt it not upgrades (stock parts) and it seems to be a real slug. I know of other ppl's 4.1s that go quite hard. It has extractors, i dont know what brand they are!! The stock intake system looks realy restrictive any suggestions?

He took my EB1 fairmont auto with my EL tickford motor and pacemakers extractors, 2.5" inch system (super cat), 2.5" super low king springs, 18" typhoon 2 rims etc. He took it for a spin last night and couldn't believe it, peeled a fair bit of rubber of the back! :(

Cheers!

the 3 speed auto might be holding things back a bit. and its a fairlane. mate of mine years ago had a 4.1 xf spac 4 speed manual, and it went pretty hard. so id say it could be weight and gearbox that makes it feel slow. what diff ratio does it have?

Thanks guys.
I not exactly sure what ratio it has but i no its tall cos of the 3spd tranny etc. I think its like 2.7 or something around there. It is on gas so that cant help.

I put i flat doing a u turn and it barely broke traction!

the efi xf's were s**t ,they guzzle fuel and power wise were unimpressive to say the least.

the normal sedans did go pretty well all though the fuel bill was not that good.

the only hope you have really is a manual conversion which won't garantee extreme power but will move it along better than the pathetic 3 speed auto.

don't get me wrong the basic cars were nice to look at and could be done up really well, but the efi was fairly primative.

3 speed auto in a fairlane.... well..... wonder why its slow???
we had an xf 5spd s pac with the fuel injected unleaded 4.1. it went very very well, till it ran out of puff at about 4500rpm.

i think changing to a 5spd would make a world of difference, probably the best bang for buck mod you could do to it.
