Just got ahold of a guy that has heaps of experience in Fords & Commys (actually a Commy specialist) and for

- Custom Cam (ground and fitted + spings, not sure about timing gear)
- Piggyback ECU (custom PB, fitted and tuned)
- Dyno Tuned

~ $1500

The guy sounded like he did have alot of experience and was very confident in what he was saying but wasnt an a*** about it and was keen to turn to it a street machine.

Wadda you guys reckon? Is a custom cam installed and matched perfectly with an ECU pb with a Dyno tune worth 1500?

pretty cheap. usually you would be looking at around that for just the tune and chip!

nah lol, but that makes the deal look a whole lot better :D

I found a guy on a Commy forum that advertised in a post who's based in Brisbane, I gave him a call and yeah - he sounded like a top notch bloke who knew what he was talking about and was real exthusastic to turn my EF into a weapon. He actually said it would be about 1600 but he said it like he knew it was gonna sound expensive and probably deter me, he said the price is up cause there'll be a fair bit of dyno tuning involved and it takes a fair amount of time.

So far I'm pretty sure I'm gonna go with him and his package, just need to get some other stuff sorted first. I report back on how it goes after it's done.

What is this "piggyback ECU"

Whats the workshop who does the custom tuning? How sure are you its not just gonna be a base tune on the chip?

Whats the specs of the springs?

Whats the specs of the cam?

Is it a billet cam or regrind?

Might wanna find these things out since your spending $1500....

why do you need a piggy back ECU for cam upgrade?

your car is an auto, any cam that NEEDS a retune is going to be far to big to work properly with standard torque converter.

you need to do alot more research before you even think about modding your car.

manual conversion is on the top of the list seeing as you cant even change the diff ratios without f*kin the gear changes.

i do research, that's why im here.

4.11 diff gears should help it get in the upper revs

seems pointless getting the ecu and tuning it running an auto if yuo are just going to change to a manual afterwoods.. do the manual conversion 1st.. then get a cam to suit and then tune it...

obviously you don't. a simple electronic speedo corrector will 'fix' the gear changes. you fit the speedo gear to suit the diff gears then use the speedo corrector between the speedo and the ECU to set the gear changes where ever you want them.

a simple search would have found a thread in the driveline section of this website with all the details you need.

it'll still be a slug off the mark. compaired to the same car with the right torque converter.
