Nah, was all special and custom :D

Now that I dont own an EL anymore, I can release the secret.

DNA Audio make a Dock to RCA + charge connector you can buy from Autobarn for about $30.

There is a doco on here somewhere about someone tapping into the line in to the head unit from the factory stacker.

I basically cut the line in wires on the stacker cable at the head unit end and put a small relay in to take an RCA input from the Dock cable and the line in from the CD stacker and fed the output of the relay into the head unit.

So I could switch between CD or Ipod whenever I wanted.

Then connect the charge wires to a 12v source (preferably fused)

I know this works with Nano Gen 1 to 3. Not sure about 4 and definitely not 5. Will prob work on some of the older Ipod Classics as well.

All up, was no more than $45 in parts and worked perfectly.

ASL mention on their site for these items that "NOTE: iPOD'S AND iTOUCH'S CAN INTRODUCE DATA LINE NOISE WHEN CHARGING - TO ENSURE THE BEST SOUND QUALTITY WE HAVE ADDED A SELECTOR SWITCH TO ALLOW THE DISABLING OF THE CHARGING CIRCUITRY WHEN REQUIRED."

Has anyone suffered this noise using an iPhone 3GS for instance and had to switch the charging circuitry off?

Is this one of those iPod docking units that is not compatible with the iPhone 3GS when it comes to charging? Many charging/playing units that I've come across result in that message  coming up on the phones screen and it's really annoying!

I have a boosted Ford Amp'd unit in the car at the moment which works fine, but this obviously doesn't charge my phone and I'd be happy to fork out the money for this ASL one if it's going to do both effectively!!

You can hear a small amount of digital noise when the volume is very low, or paused or gaps between songs, and thats it. Nothing that will upset you.

Or at least it doesn't upset me.

One of the things I've been meaning to try is put one of those line filters on the power line and see if that gets rid of it. It did in my EL setup.

But its barely noticable, so wasn't a high priority.

Oh, and this is with a Nano 5G.

hi all
just installed my boosted kit into my BA XR6 and boy am I not happy with it.
not only does it have to be turned up to 20+ to get any acceptable level out of it, after you have been driving for 5 mins you have to turn it off cause the wine from the engine gives you a headache.
Been back to ford and it seams my car is one of only a "few" that this can happen too and will need to be put in to diagnose the problem at $110 a hour and to top it off they cant tell me how long it will take.
It is strange that my car is also one of the few that does not like copied cds and again one of the few that now has no cd player function any more. :x Seriously thinking about buying a holden.
I wanted one of these since they come out and only bought it 12 months ago.
any thoughts on how these issues can be fixed?

If you have to turn it up to 20+ to hear it, its not a boosted kit.

Or its a f**k boosted kit that is not boosting at all.

Did you buy a genuine kit or one of the ASL kits. If you bought a genuine Ford one, piss it off and buy an ASL one.

And there is a Ford TSB about running a wire from the signal in ground to the sense ground pin on the AUX in plug to help remove whine and distortion.

Some of these B-Series cars where factory made with completely s**t audio, where everything is full of whines and buzzes and bad radio receiption.

Worst case, bypass Ford and speak to someone at ASL. They make the ICC, they should be able to give the best advice.

Cheers mate,
I have been trying to get on the ASL site but it wont load up for some reason, keeps saying there is a problem.
This Ford TSB? I assume this is the pdf that shows you how to do the mod, do you know where it can be found?
I had a copy but got lost when the hdd crashed.
