Hi all, I am looking at buying a 2006 BF ute but the engine bay is a dark blue, almost black. The exterior is light metalic blue, the dealer told me that this was normal because the engine bay paint is a special heat resistant paint and never matches the exterior. I have never noticed such a thing on any other utes I have looked at. Am I right to suspect this thing has had an accident.

Every other car ive seen with factory paint is all same colour. Either an accident or a respray. Check where the paint colour stops and the other starts. Should be a good indication of where to look for leftover damage.

Some B series falcons have the Engine bay a different colour to the outside as Ash said usually a matt colour to the rest of the car.

Thanx for the replys, From what ur saying 93eb, this could be normal. do you know where I could find out which colours of the B series had the different engine bays?

alot of Au's & B-series were known to have black or dark colour engine bays

Not sure exactly peete what colour cars have different engine bay paints.
I can tell you my 04 BA is metallic lightning strike in colour and a dull grey throughout inside the engine bay. Its not uncommon for cars to have black engine bays compared to the outside of the car though. If someone has an AU or B series with a different coloured engine bay hopefully they will mention it in here.

I was working in a panel beaters and i have noticed it alot that engine bays from factory are pretty shabby looking i.e thin paint or different colored paint. i think it is for cost cutting (cheap skates)

MY BF MK11 XR6 Turbo is Breeze and has BREEZE paint is the engine bay although no clear coat.
