i want to put some EF/EL mirrors onto my ED and was wondering exactly what has to be done to make them fit and work properly?

i heard that all you have to do is just change a plug over? is that correct?

cheers troy

Hey mate I'm about to do it too. As far as I know you need the window rubber off the EF/EL aswell cos it fills a gap at the back of the new mirrors and you need to drill new holes too, different mount positions.

Hi.

In addition to what is in my thread, the wiring may be different depending on what model mirror switch you are using. I used the EL type as I had already converted to EF/EL door cards.

You are aware the NF/NL Fairlane mirrors are different to EF/EL mirrors? And more expensive to boot. They have the chrome strip around them.

And one more tip..... instead of guesstimating where the new hole goes (as per the doco), grab some blue tack and stick that on the door, then test fit the mirror. Give it a push and the location of the hole will be imprinted in the blue tack. Center punch that and drill your holes - should line up perfectly needing only minimal adjustment. This is what I did for mine and it worked perfectly.

Cheers
RD

I believe that as they have the chrome strip, the base is actually wider, so to speak, and covers more of the door frame than std ones.

It would look quite odd without the rest of the chrome strip going over the doors.
