Thanks I was about to start the thread .. I was just to lazy.

I've had my kit in now for about 3 months and it has been great ... still gotta get off my lazy a** and look at why it is not switching to high beam on the outer lights (centres still come on when I hit the highs though).

Looks like a load issue on the circuit (normally with halogen it is seeing 60W each side ... but with HID it is only seeing 35W per side) ... I have tested it with one halogen in one side and the HID in the other ... and it flicks up onto highbeam (both sides) ... but when I hook both the HIDs back up ... it won't switch up to high.

I gotta look into it a bit more ... with someone who is electrically minded.

But all in all ... it is much clearer than halogen for sure.

Here's a write-up on a Mitsu Forum of a mate who tested it in his Lancer with comparison pics to the Mirage I was driving (with Super white 90W globes ... the difference is amazing).

As I said the superwhite halogen "xenon" (not really) globes look brown compared to the 6000K HID ... the guy now has 8000K HID globes in ... slightly bluer than these ... I have the 6000Ks in mine.

I have dropped the right so it is on the road in front of me ... the left angles off the road and up. I still have a lot of fiddle left to do to get it right.

Other headlights are going to be different in beam pattern as well ... Projectors would be the best (ED-EL) lights to use.

The above pic really doesn't do it justice though as it was taken on the lawn at home and across the paddock a bit.

Range depends on where you adjust your beam to ... but the clarity is better ... especially at the end of your beam.

Mine take a few seconds to warm up to operating temperature .. and have a 2 seconds delay to shut off (so really can't be used seperately for your centre high-beam only lights)

Also as dusk starts approaching ... you can see your beam on the road and also in the rain as well.

Wouldn't they be bad on the EF/EL with the plastic headlights? As don't HID run really hot!

Nah .... the HIDs aren't hot at all ... as far as I know my AU lights are plastic ... the Highbeam section gets kinda very warm ... the low beam side is cool to the touch after it has been running for ages.

They only run at 35W each.

I didn't think the Au ones were as they don't have the same yellowing problem as EF.

I haven't really checked them ... btu I can tell you I can touch the headlamp lense without getting my hand warm with the HIDs compared to a normal halogen (where it can get quite warm to the touch)

If they only consume 35W and produce such a great light, i'd assume they'd be far more efficient than the conventional halogen globes we use, which means they'd generate FAR less heat.

Exackery

It's all to do with the gas inside the globe itself.
The filament inside it is very different from a convetional halogen headlamp as well.

What are the pro's/con's of the higher (12000K) vs the lower (2700K).

I'm assuming going too high will result in a very blue light, possibly a target for police..

I've read a few articles which state 4100K produces the brightest visible power. 6000K seems to be the turning point where the light appears blue.

Isn't 4,000k (which is pretty much white) the highest your alowed to go and still be ADR approved? or is that normal hologen ones only?

Never thought of that. Any idea on how long they last?
I know the Narva HID kits are still over a grand.
I'd be wondering about these eBay.com.au ones, I mean if you can only get spare globes from Narva for some ridiculous price then it might end up costing you a fortune!

I've seen claims of 3 - 10 times longer lasting.

I'd expect replacements to be around $100/pair.

I wonder if you can later use different temperature colour globes.
