I've found I can stick a fingernail under the head of it, and if I pull upwards on it, while unscrewing it, it comes out easily enough. Then the second part pulls straight out. I've used this method heaps of times, and have never replaced them. I reuse them every time.

years upon years of working on these cars has taught me the best way is simple.
Take a very small flat blade screwdriver and use it to pry the top half of the scrivet upwards, than using a pair of side cutters pull upwards and it comes straight out. Once the top part is out the bottom piece should also pull straight out. 99% of the time you can even reuse them. |

does any one know an alternative to these scrivets
so when i take them out i can replace them with something better.. any ideas?? |

I've thought about replacing them with plastic push in button type things called Pine Tree clips, similar to a scrivet except it wont have 2 parts to it and should be easier to pull out as long as they fit the hole nicely. Similar to the buttons that hold the bonnet lining and boot lining in on EF/EL's but in the correct size obviously. They seem easier to get out and you dont have to worry about any unscrewing while levering upwards nonsense, just lever it up and pull it out. Like this..

I hate them too, scrivets and Christmas trees. What was the matter with a simple screw?

As long as you can find ones that fit the hole perfectly, so not too tight and not to loose, they work just fine, well for me anyway, i have them holding in the plastic panel above the headlights and bonnet catch

perhaps is there somthing similar to these.... there wall mates for plaster board walls
but pretty much the would screw in and hold on the sheetmetal then you screw a screw into them

get a micro flathead screw driver pry the head up abit , then get side cutters and pull the head off dont cut it..
these things are a piece of cake to take off |
