hey guys, just to clarify something...

At the top of the tech doco on high series cluster conversions, it says the car is already fitted for high series cluster. Does that mean if I were to fit an NL cluster to an EF Ghia, it would work without any modifications or would i have to install the door sensors and fuel door reed switch still???? The NL cluster is much sexier than the standard range. :P any more info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :)

EF EL (GLi/Futura/XR) has Low/Mid Clusters.
EF EL (Fairmont/Ghia) has Mid series Clusters.
DF DL (Fairlane/FBT/LTD) has High series Cluster.

Fitting a High series in any car other than a DF/DL will require ALL wiring to the doors/fuel etc to enable these functions.

EF EL Gli - Low Series Cluster
EF EL Futura/XR/Fairmont/Ghia - Mid Series Cluster
NF NL DF DL Fairlane/FBT/LTD - High Series

so unless you have on of the NF/NL/DF/DL's, no it isn't plug it all in

EF EL GLi's and Futuras have the same (basically) cluster - low series.

Fairmonts + XRs have mid - extra 2 gauges over Gli/Futura.

I thought the GLi had the low series BEM, and the Futura had the Mid series BEM with low series cluster?

Would the cluster still work without the door sensors and such installed and just not have that section of the display work?

Thanks for all the help guys.

correct,

GLi, has a Low series BEM, with a Low series cluster.
Futura has Mid BEM, Low cluster
XR has a Mid Bem and a Mid Cluster,
Fairmont+ has High series BEM and Mid/High cluster *with variable dimming*

However No-one mentioned BEM in this thread yet tho.

And Yes, you can install the High series Cluster in ANY of the above models.

However, you'll have to trick the Cluster with resistors to assume the doors are shut, otherwise it'll flash and beep at you.

I made a Plug and Play adaptor which plugs into the existing loom, and connects to the High series cluster, makes it very easy to reverse the system.

You'll also need to add a resistor for the LCD circuit in a Low/Mid series BEM equipped car, Only Fairmont and above has variable dimming and the cluster needs this signal. This resistor will trick that and can be mounted externally.
