Hi guys, don't know whether I'm posting this in the right section. I have an EL XR8 x police. THe interior light doesn't come on when I open the doors. I know this was the way they were programmed but how do you get it back to normal. Can I just change the ECU or can I take the car to ford and get them to change the setting.
Thanks Steve

have you checked the bulb, the switch on the dash and the fuse. I know it sounds silly, but you never know.

Car wont start without the fuse that the interior lights on because smartlock uses it as well. I think they bypassed the light by not connecting the wires behine it. Do the map reading lights work?

Steve, does the car have a switch on the dash somewhere to turn the interior light on EXCEPT for the one on the headlight switch? (Au's did on the centre louvre panel)

If it does, pop it out and throw a jumper into the plug to by-pass the switch.

No need to change ECU or BEM - does it have the courtesy light switches fitted ??
I'd guess the plugs and wires are there, just not plugged in - they are black/blue colour.
Pull the kickpanels/panels below the driver/front passenger seatbelt and have a look for these 4 wires.

Its not that rare,

I've been through about 15 (seriously) Opt20 police cars none of them had interior light disabled.

As Ray said, check the wiring I'm sure you'll find a break within the kick panel or LHS rear parcel shelf.

BEM's throughout the entire range of E series were not individualized for a police car.

wrong on mine they cut the blue wire from bem,i only found it when i removed the fascia and had to work around that area,it was a easy fix for them.

Actually, if all the door switches are in place, cutting the black/blue wire at the BEM would be the easiest way to disable all 4 doors.
Check out the middle BEM connector, pin A17.

What model, I know the AU onwards had a button near the power windows switch that disabled them. And i think the EL had one in the centre console, or there would be a seperate rocker switch near the lock dorrs button
