I put it together so I could see what it'd look like. (keep in mind that at full size it is quite a bit bigger than it appears here) I'm thinking of having this professionally printed onto frosted white sheet and then put 10 coats of clear lacquer over it to give it a luster and depth (like real carbon fibre) Anyway, I'm happy with that.. To give you an idea.. here is the original.

ohk got my template and i wa sthinking of making a white one.... does nayone have one cause i wanan ahve a look at how it lights up at night.....
cause the "ticks" for indicating speed and revs will be in black ink when printed, how will this light up???

Hahahahah - Nah mate --- I get no replies at all with regards to my endeavors, but then --- ONE DAY.... The best day ever --- I got a private message from a guy who had a week off work and LOVED my instrument cluster and wanted advice on his ideas!
Think I said to try WINDOW TINTING FILM so that the graphic is only visable when BACKLIT strongly. IE - ONLY VISABLE AT NIGHT TIME. Anyways, have not heard back how that particular project went. I don't get why people put FORD in their cluster all the time tho. Surely you must know what the hell it is ya driving by the time you have to look at the tacho or speedo closely? Hope I remembered to put the low coolant level LED back in the right way around..............

well if that is the logic.. why have a ford badge at the front... and the back of your car... you need neither..

Come to think of it... Here's a picture of my passenger dash - couldn't work out if the car is a Futura, a Fairmont or what have you. It is now a mushroom. Just like the artist formally known as Prince.... The car is now the car that used to be known as Futura AUT.
The inset picture is the lit glovebox handle - put a bright blue led behind it... Right, sorry to interrupt another thread with my ravings. One day I will compile all my different things into one thread and attempt to make it readable. Nighty night...... Kiaora bro |

New dial background arrived today...
They look awesome. They came with a mask as well as the design itself which is printed on white-light filter plastic. They look awesome. I just need to line up the two layers and install into my new fairmont cluster. Here's pics of them dummy fitted into a spare cluster...

I'm picking up another new digital dash today so I can take my time getting the whole thing perfect.
When I'll use my carbon fibre design and redo the whole backlighting thing (because ea-ed dashes have dumb backlighting system) using blue strip LEDS. As an added bonus, the new cluster has a working fuel guage. (my old one didn't.) Then I just need to get a set of new clear EF/EL style needles and I'm set. (If they don't sleeve straight on, I'll glue them to the EA/ED needle centers.) Should come out rather nice. Last edited by frankieh on Fri Sep 19, 2008 2:41 am, edited 1 time in total. |

I've picked up my replacement digital dash, printed out my new carbon fiber screens and have just to assemble the whole thing and back light it with strip LED's
so much to do.... |
