Try taking the negative off the battery for about an hour and then put it back on, that will reset everything.

for fuel level u should never have to reset,

is the trip computer factory or did you install it,
when you have a full tank does it display this on the dash?

It's an ED Fairmont so trip computer is standard, resetting everything generally does work because range is based on fuel level and how the car is driven, when reset, it reverts back to default values. Wiring should be fine, if wiring was loose then the computer wouldnt power up at all.
