hey, i was just wonderng if anyone else has compared there power between gas and petrol on a dyno?

i ran mine on saturday, and was horrified at the difference.
my setup runs the stock EL i think...

by removing the intake from the throttle body (so it wasnt sucking air through the mixer) and changing to petrol, i went from 105rwkw to 137rwkw, which means im loosing around about 25% power.

does this seem normal?

What mods do you have? Is it auto or manual?

also depends on the system and setup you have. My mate's system only has a difference of 12-13%

Mums Forte on injection feels like its lost some power, 15% or less perhaps.

Last time i was on a dyno my loss was only 2kw between LPG & Petrol. I'm running a gas injection system. I've done a few mods since then, yet to retune & run it on a dyno. Will be interesting to see the results tho.

Older style lpg systems will loose more power than newer style systems. Depends on what your running to how it will go power wise. At the end of the day, is the power loss a big deal to you?

Cheers

hey sorry about not replying for so long.

the cars an auto, extractors, 2.5 mandrel, cam, untuned unichip, k&n pannel filter.

the powerloss isnt a huge issue, but i figure if its loosing 32 rwkw, then its probably not running all that effieciently.

Were both these figures run on the same dyno same day?

Because that can explain the big gap, the 137kw figure sounds a little high as well considering the auto should be robbing more power than that for the mods you got.

yeah, the runs were done about 2 seconds apart.
the only other thing i changed was i removed the intake pipe as said before.

is it possible the mixer is restricting the airflow of the gas that much?

A mixer will restrict the airflow thru it. How much would depend on mixer design & the size of the intake & exit holes. Also depends on the amount of fuel the mixer can flow. Can it flow enough for the car to make good power up top, without being sluggish down low?

I have read of mixer systems that claim power loss of about 25%, so it's possible.

Cheers

I own a 95 fairmont and the difference between lpg and petrol isn't all too bad, you notice it a lot more when your running premium 98 mix of petrol as opposed to unleaded but its not too bad. Depends on how hard you drive it, i dont drive it hard enough for the difference to annoy me. If I were you I would give your car another run on the dyno. 137kw sounds pretty high coming out of the back wheels so maybe your not losing all that power after all.

Did the same thing the other day, took the mixer out, and took it for a squirt on petrol, big difference!
Just have a look at the internal diameter of the mixer vs throttle body.(In my case 2in - 2.5in vs 3in!)
Don't know what other options are around (other than injection)?

Other than injection, maybe only Gas Research. I'm not sure what the size of their tb's are, but i have one in the shed ( for my turbo torana project )i could possibly measure up later. It's a 440cfm, but the main body & butterfly are the same right thru the range. The " diffuser " part is what changes, which provides some restriction to air flow, but i'd imagine it wouldn't be as bad as a normal mixer.

Cheers

I have a Duel Fuel Tickford Factory set on my AU and on LPG it has more low down power than Petrol.

Does 98.4 rwkw on LPG but havent tried it on the dyno on petrol but I reckon (by feel) it would bve about the same. My engine is completely stock and no exhaust mods at all and has high kays

How is the mixer setup in the factory Au dual fuel? Is it a dirty great thing that sits infront of the tb or is it a modified petrol tb?

Cheers

its part of the throttle body itself - would be rare as rocking horse poo to get one. last one I seen was on Ebay, went for about $150
