Yes, the XR8's were the only EL model to to be released first with the HO intake and then later with the Explorer intake.
Unless the EL's that the police were using were actually XR8's then they came with the standard HO intake.

hey guys i heard a cold air intake would make a difference, does anyone know where i can get arts to put one together? also i was thinking of doing some exhaust work, the main muffler in the center has been removed n has been replaced with straight pipes 2" for a better sound, should i run 2.5" pipes from the extractors to the end?

would these help with performance, i also heard if i changed the injectors it can help in performance, can anyone recommend any in particular and where i can buy them, im in sydney.

There is no point in been on this site if you don't listen to some of the advice you have been given. Most of the ppl that are giving it have been through this process already and know what works. They have done the trial and error so know where best to spend your coin and actually get results.

There is no benefit of going for bigger injectors at this point in time as nothing on the motor has been changed to warrant fitting larger injectors. It needs to get more airflow through the motor before you start putting more fuel down it's throat.

Do you know which intake and exhaust manifolds are on your car yet? Once you actually know what you have then you can move forward and start modifying; but just throwing random s**t at it like injectors at car is not going to help get more performance out of the car right now.

The biggest issue with the V8 is they have poor flowing cylinder heads, intake & exhaust manifolds.

If your car is made after Oct97 then it is likely you have the Explorer intake manifold and ELGT extractors already fitted which is a good start. However if you car was built before then it has the HO intake manifold and crushed pipe extractors which are the equivalent of having asthma and trying to breath through a straw while running.

If your not sure of what you actually have post some pictures of the motor and exhaust manifolds and some one will let you know what you have and suggest where to start.

Just saw this:

It will help identify what you have.

hey guys, i recently bought a El XR8, as it ia completley stock and Im still a uni student i cant afford to spend too much but i want to get as much performance and power as i can without spending an arm and leg. i have recently bought a mod chip http://cgi.ebay.com.au/FORD-Mod-Chip-EA-EB-ED-EF-EL-EY-Ute-F-lane-Equiv-/190464676315?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2c589451db, however im notsure where to go from here.

can anyone give me advice on some cheap or easy ways too get the best performance from it, thank you.

These "mod chips" are blatant false advertising, relying on the placebo effect - I paid good money for it, therefore it must be working. I even had a conversation with a machanic a year or so ago that truely believes they work. Even when I stated the obvious "if they actually worked, they would be fitted to every new vehicle because all the manufacturers are desperately trying to increase fuel milage & performance", he couldn't accept that he had been taken in.

I know Ebay regularly removes these listing, but they keep coming back like a bad smell. We even got them listing over here for a day before they were pulled.

And wtf is EY Falcon. If that's not a warning sign, what is it???

The cheapest and easiest way to increase air flow is to get an AU snorkel off ebay for @ $40 and a K&N air cleaner for @ $70 also from flea bay! then you can start cutting hole in air box and running ducting to other areas like behind head light or down low near front to get cooler air. I don't think the aftermarket intakes are worth the big $'s they ask.

Not on a standard motor, no. But if you have upgraded your intake and heads then the bigger CAI's are useful.
