hey guys. last nite was driving to my cousins place and when i stopped i heard a bit of a unusual ticking sound.
after about 20 mins of driving it started getting worse preety quick and now is a mongrel knock type sound.
it only happens on idle and when i pick the revs up over 1.5k prm it goes away.
while driving it feels like its got a miss or the timing is rite out.

i just wanted to know if it is the vct phasers for sure and are they relatively ezy change myself. plus where would i find some at a reasonable price?

thnx.

Surely more then a small handful here on fm have 3vs.
And I can't be the only one to do my own phasers...
Anyways they were actually pretty ezy. LOL.

Hardest part is taking the rocker covers off.

If you want I can try tel you as much as I can to help you with yours.

O and that ebay link didn't work on my phone.. :/

Threads like this get burried in all the off topic drivel and spam.
I do need to do mine.
Did you change the whole phaser unit, or just the solenoid?

Whats the solenoid.. The sensor on the front? I didn't change that.
I did change the whole phaser sproket thing itself.

Was relatively easy. I also got to practice on another motor before doing mine which helped. When I get home I'll upload some pics and do a bit of a write up on how to change em.

What happens if you don't fix it? Mine has a ticking too, although its not as bad as the video. Don't think I could do it myself and don't have the $ to pay someone to do it.

if yours is ticking and has the start up rattle preety bad yours is probably the tensioners that are gone.
what happens iff you dont fix that?... they get worse over time. the chain gets more and more movement in it untill it jumps a tooth on one of the sprokets. then you get the valve to piston action :? .

mine, like the video was a locating pin on the back of the phaser sproket to the camshaft that had been smashed out and was on the verge of falling out = epic valve - piston.

if its just the phasers ceasing up and crapping themselves you will get some shlt running and it wont have power thru the revs.

in terms of fixing the phasers arent too bad. basically when you get the rocker covers off its just 1 more bolt that holds the phasers in place. mark where on the chain the arrow on the phaser is, pull it off while holding the chain up, swap the phasers, line up the chain and whack it on.

mine ws making a horrid knocking noise when the phaser was stuffed completely.
i think when they are warm they make a bit of a knocking noise but nothing too noticeable. yo could be up for swapping your phasers soon. its not a too big of a job actually. lol.
