G'day rev heads,

After the ute I was going to buy an E-series Falcon and throw my EFI Cleveland, loader and 9" in it but, of course I realised that I would probably never get on with the my next project that had already waited long enough!
It's a '69 Mercury Cougar XR7. It's not actually that new(Ive had it for ages) but I've finally decided to bite the bullet and get on with it.
Here are some pics.
This shows the rear quarter that had been replaced in the past and was just lapped over on the pillar, mig welded, and bogged by some dumb a***!
It's been properly butt welded and lead wiped as original. You can't really see it but the roof has also been filled in where some tosser had put a sunroof in it!?! The original roof piece was in the boot!?
Image

As you can see I've basically gutted it except for the suspension....

Here's the engine block.

Found this photo on the net and modified to roughly how I want it to look.....won't be blue though.

Pete.

What FE block is that Pete? I can't find my parts book to have a guess (it is far from accurate anyway)

What model falcon is the RHD firewall conversion from?

67 is a cool looking model, I keep looking for something different that is a 69 model (Just so I can use the sticker "Nothing finer than a 69er") but I find most cool looking different US Fords aren't 69 models.
69 Mustang is cool looking but it has been done to many times, and cost way to many dollars to even think of dreaming about buying one.
A mate sold his 69 Mustang coupe (not the fastback) about 5yrs ago, it was stripped in patches back to metal, rough as and he still got $5800 for a shell.(He owns a 71 Firebird now, because it is different and cool looking)

Well keep us updated on progress.

That's gonna be crazy.

Im guessing its going to be a monstrous sized block with an EEC-IV setup?

Lol - much better than the e-series project!!

It's a 390 4V. It's still left hook too.
It'll be at least 416ci when built....428 crank gives 410ci on a stock bore.
A 410 was actually available for one year in Mercuries and F-series Fords.
Probably have Edelbrock heads, hyd. roller and my own design EFI intake with EECV from 4.6L engine. Either a T56 or Richmond gear 5 sp for gear. Plan is to use RRS power rack and Global west Coil over front end when converting to right hook.

Pete.

Got some more bits for the Cougar....
I decided to go for Total Control suspension and Willwood brakes.
Here's the front end stuff. There's double adjustable aluminium coil over shocks with 550lb springs, true centre strut rods, tubular chrome moly upper and lower arms with kevlar joints. The upper arms locate 1" lower for improved camber and roll centre and the whole lot is adjustable.
Image
Here's the Brakes. Willwood 13" front with Forged 4 piston calipers, 12" rear and smaller 4 spots and internal drum brake for hand brake.
Image
From behind..
Image
Here's the bracket for adapting the caliper to the std Ford stub axle.
Image
This is the subframe support/connector setup with integral tailshaft loop and pivot point for Torque arm rear suspension.

Big luxurious mustang. Droool...........
So many nice old american fords in AUS. Its like the last safe haiven for these beasts, were they can lead a dry sheltered life.
Wawaweewaaaa thats some very nice billet suspension componenty you have there. Should be one heck of a car once finished!

Are you going to put all the 'daytona' or '429 RAM AIR' bonnet scoops, air deflectors and rear wing on it? RED with black go fast bits would look a treat.

Good to see it isn't getting any of that McPherson's strut s**t front end, Mac struts should be left in cheap cars like Commowhores.

Tell us more about the torque arm setup, got any pictures of US Fords with this conversion?

Hear hear! Yes why go to an inferior design when you can improve on an already superior SLAS front end?
I'll post pics of the install yes.

Here's the Pushrod/torque arm rear end they also sell. Problem is getting the exhaust out past it. The yanks don't care because they just side exit the exhaust. Plus it costs about the same as eveything I just got!?
