I just looked on the Ford website and went through the specs.
You can't get a V8 at all unless you get an XR8 or GT.
You'd think at least it would be an option in the G-series and you'd certainly expect a V8 option in the ute!?
What a sad state of affairs this is!

news as of august 2007
http://www.drive.com.au/Editorial/Artic ... 2460&vf=26

apparantly they were selling 10 per month, i dont blame them for axeing the V8. If the aussie consumer supported the blue oval enough, then these things wouldnt happen

I can understand they dropped the 3V for lack of sales but...
Thing is, the cars are built to order as the customer orders them so what does it matter what engine you have?
It's not like it's an engine they don't have! They could have used the 260 engine in the base models because they dropped the 3V.
I reckon if you're willing to pay the extra you should be able to have the engine you want?
It's like when I went looking to get a manual 3V ute. They said it was dropped because the clutch didn't have a high enough torque rating for towing. I said I want a ute so I can put the s**t in the back not tow the s**t!?! and then I said "how the hell do you reckon the BTR 4spd will stand up to towing better!?!"
a GT-E is still a GT!

they got ride of the 3v cause of slowly declining sales and the minor dramas that happen with them. but really atm the xr8 isn't that special anymore latly it has become the standard falcon, and the gt/ps have become the sports version.

Clearly you've not compared the BFII GT with the FG XR8 by actually driving them. The FG XR8 absolutely shat all over the BFII GT. Both had a claimed 290kw, both had a 6 speed manual, but the FG XR8 was just so much better to drive (all the little things added up to a big difference; the gearshift was nicer, there was more mid-range grunt, there was more leg room under the steering column, the suspension did a better job of disguising the weight etc). And all for about 2/3 of the price.

And when was the XR8 all that "special"? EB-EL the driveline was almost identical to any other E series with an optional 5L. They handled the corners better, but that was it.

What do you mean by that? The FG GT is a better animal than the XR8, it's just that the FG XR8 is better overall than the GTs of the previous model (just like the AU XR8s were better than the E series GTs, but the T series AUs were better again; it's the natural progression for the latest model to be better than the outgoing one).
