So what would happen if the ELXR8 series 1 was running the same final drive as the 6? I love the inline 6 but, its amazing at what marketing and chinese whispers can accomplish...

Anyways in the end, whack a friggin 3.9 final drive and then start laughing at Gen IIIs at the lights...

Well if going from a 3.23 to a 3.45 will knock 2 tenths or so off the wuarter mile.
A Series 1 EL XR8 will be pretty well the same as the XR6.
But yeah 3.9's would be a nice help too!

a manual is happy with 3.45, but the auto needs atleast 3.9-4.1 for decent off the mark acc'

If the XR6 can tame an XR8 (EF/EL) can it also tame a VP SS 5.0V8?? Auto or manual.

Mate, an XR6 is not only capable of taming a dirty old SS (check this out: http://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=22223) but there are a few people on here that have actually tamed VR-VS Clubsports (myself included :), Soulfire is another ) in their XR6's.

Seems you may have originally under-estimated the performance of the mighty XR6 mate

I can tame a 185 clubsport, they're nothing to be too excited about. The VN SS is pretty light and loves mods, I've been mauled by several, but given most out their these days are worked off their tits i'm not shocked.
clubsport 215 i would suggest would rape me - but have never dragged one, in fact, i've only seen 1 or two in my time.

I had no problem in a stock 4L Auto EF Wagon against a Manual VT SS. Kept a car length off the line til the end.

last week I surprised myself and whipped a VZ SS ute, that sounded realy nasty, with aftermarket exhaust, spoiler kit and lots more ,including P plates!where do these kids get the money? when I was that age it was cool to have an EA auto with tints & mags (no it wasn't THAT long ago...... or was it!)
