Hi, I have 3.23's in a windsor v8. Im thinking of going 3.45s to match the xr8. How will the car perform?

a) not really noticable, waste of time
b) have better takeoff and thats about it
c) have a little bit more everywhere
d) other----please specify..

seems to make plenty of difference in the xr6 and el ghia... Those cars are about half a seconf quicker than the standard 4.0L with 3.23s. Will I get a similar benefit??

The only thing I noticed was it was WAY easier to do burnouts and chirp gears.

dont forget the el ghia is a bit heavier than an xr6. also Im 100% positive that the Ghias from '96 onwards had the 3.45 anyway.

Id say the time diff is a weight issue.

this is according to redbooks

xr6- 1557 kg (auto) 0-100 -- 8.2
Ghia- 1606 kg (auto) 0-100 -- 8.3

noticably it aslo puts power and torque as slightly different.

164 kw @ 5000 rpm XR---164 kw @ 4900 rpm GHIA.
366 nm @ 3150 rpm XR--- 361 nm @ 3000 rpm GHIA

so a slightly different state of tune for the ghia as well. Could be the different fuel regulator or the ECU. Not sure.

Id say for the auto 3.45's bare minimum, maybe 3.7's, and the manual 3.23's. first gear would be pretty short on the manual with a 3.45. but fun :)

the fairy ghia runs the standard exhaust, xr6 has a 2.5" press bent exhaust, thats why the power is different.
the difference in times is due to the weight and slight difference in power.
both cars run the ticky motor, so should be quicker than most other falcs xr6turnip.

Is your current diff an LSD? if so there will be bugger all difference, unless your making a qtr mile monster

I went from 3.08 to 3.45 without any noticible loss in Economy around town or hwy.

Standard 4.0l's have a 3.08 diff, not 3.23. So the jump from 3.08 to 3.45 is a worthwile effort.

3.23 to 3.45 you wont notice squat. Unless yor 3.23 is a single spinner, then you will get the benefit of the LSD (assuming your swapping the entire diff/centre). You'd really need to goto a 3.7 before you felt the same difference between 3.08 to 3.45.

And don't forget, in stock trim an EL Ghia is just as quick as an EL GLi. The extra power and diff ratio just barely make up for the extra weight of the car.

Hi,

thankyou for the replies. Mine is a windsor 5.0v8 with 3.23's. I was gonna put the 3.45s in but not sure if its going to make any difference??

Will I notice any better acceleration?

You may do but that difference rapidly fades from memory.

Hi,

I have the 3.45's in.

The Car charges away off the mark better than the 3.23's and if your on the highway and give it a boot, the car seems more responsive.

Also no difference to fuel economy.

You can literally just tickle the throttle and your away

great mod
