Thats complete drive shafts.

In your situation id say your best getting someone to check it out.
But id expect to hear some strange noises in the back like you are now. If its a driveshaft
You got away with it cheap this time.

yeah, well i hope so, ill just start saving for a diff anyway if is shafts cos no doubt it will be the diff to go next... the diff shouldnt go that easy, it was a skid in the wet... unless traction control has f**k up and gone, no sorry, no skid for you... could trac control be a cause of the pressure build up and broken whatever? cos i think i had it off but im starting to doubt my self

It would cut on and off the power which would not have been good on the drive train.
Keep us posted how you go.

this has happend to me too.

just jack up the back end a bit and go under and wriggle the axles that go from the diff to the wheel.

if one has plenty of movement then thats your problem.

another way is while the back end is jacked up get a friend to put in gear a little and have a look to see if everything is running straight and try pick where the noise is coming from.

edit: heres from whem mine went. ford-v8-f2/diff-went-bang-last-night-t96513.html?hilit=diff

i got under the car last night, the cv is f**k, i started the car and the only grind i can hear is from the cv joint... ive done a cv in a little swift, how much harder is it to replace in an xr8?? or is just worth getting a mechanic to do it?
