Hey Shav

As you have an AU you are a bit better off than us E-series owners. the problem for us is the upright and the way in which the caliper can attach. For the AU there is alot more stuff on the market which is a straight bolt on upgrade. There is the brakes that were on the XR's as well as the upgrade for the TS and TE series cars. I think you can also put the BA turbo brakes on. (I could be wrong). UPC also do an upgrade which I think is under a grand.

Cross drilled and slotted are not the right option for heavy braking. Their life is shoterned by cracks appearing between the cross drilling. Next time look at the brakes on pretty much any true race car. They are slotted only. If you can spare the money larger rotors are the best. they absorb more heat and dissapate it better. this means less fade. Which when you are doing heavy driving is what you are after most

Thanks for that mate, very interesting.
What improvements do the T-series & XR's have over a standard falcon as far as braking is concerned?

I already have twin piston calipers now, do the XR's and T series have bigger calipers again? Would I also need to upgrade the brake booster/master cylinder? I was thinking of going to get some second hand stuff from a wrecker. Is this wise or should I just cough up and pay for new equipment?

Id like to investigate the options considering that Im about to increase the power output of the car soon.

I assume this is on AFF Dan? If so, I'll check this out.

Is it a straight swap over or will there need to be master cylinder/booster conversions too?

Yeah they do! thats where I saw them. You can use the existing master cylinder. The only time you would need to upgrade that was if you went to the brembo upgrade thatwas available for them. Contact FerntreeGully auto salvage direct and tell them you are a member on here and they give you discount:-)

I bought some stuff from there recently and told them I was a fordmods member and they gave me additional discount off advertised price. Better to call them direct than using ebay.

I found the link on AFF. But if they are on here too and they offer discount, its a win/win situation. :D

From what I read, they do a 330mm RDA slotted rotor with bigger front calipers. How much bigger are they over my stock S2 twin pots?

Those Brembos look sexual. But Id rather get this mod done for under 1k if possible. $650 is definitely a nicer price than 2.5k :P

Then if I went braided lines and some QFM brake pads? It will be closer to 1k all up anyway.

The way Im reading FTG's kits is that they are using a BF caliper to handle larger slotted rotors that can fit AU2-BF falcons. Am I reading this right?

My understanding is that the calipers on the B series cars are stronger and more rigid meaning less distortion under pressure. This means more even pad pressure across the whole surface area. larger rotors absorb more heat and dissipate it better

OK,

Spoke to Howard at RBM again. Apparently, Melbourne own the "Race Brakes" brand and RBS sell kits that are actually made by Melbourne, by buying the parts through dealers? Anyway, f**k knows how RBS beat the RBM pricing, and RBM would not budge on price at all, for cash or anything -- SVO_EB, he said you gave him uprights back or something which bought the price down for your case (??). He also said the floating kit is more again but didn't give me a price.

Anyway, its all BS, im going to put new pads in for now and upgrade to a B series when I cbf. The bodgy offset of the UPC kit isn't my kettle of fish.

Jason

PS: Could we please keep this thread to e-series brakes? Its hard enough to find good info on this subject as it is.
