G'day everyone

My AUII XR6 manual has been having alot of clutch trouble. about two years ago the clutch began to get very hard to press down, along with that came the occasional accidental gear grind or it would be hard to slip into 1st gear from a complete stop, this slowly got worse. about 6 months ago i asked dad about it and he adjusted the clutch cable which made the problem ease, untill dad looked at the clutch pedal assembly, it had nearly broken apart, we took it to a mechanic to replace, while they were working on the car the clutch cable snapped, then while replacing it they found the clutch itself was pretty warn and replaced it too. after that there were no problems, untill about a week ago when it seems to have begun again.

I have a feeling that the synchro mesh could be warn but I don't know whether it could effect the clutch, or maybe that the stock clutch on the AUII XR6's wasn't quite heavy duty enough, I think the mechanic used the cheapest replacement possible.

Any Ideas? if not thanks anyway

Is the firewall cracked where the cable goes thru?

Have you ever changed the oil in the gear box???.....you'd better have a look to see if the firewall is ok, too.
Use DexIII tranny fluid with some Nulon G70 gearbox/diff additive.

Has the spigot (or sometimes known as pilot) bearing been changed since the car was new?

If it's warn & notchy, the guts of your gearbox won't spin freely & that will create a notchy feel to gear changes.

It's usually a good idea to change it when you have the gearbox out, but they do tend to last for years. I recently changed mine in my EB Ghia with T5, and it made a huge difference to the feel of the box, nice & smooth once again.

Cheers
