Putting heavy tension on the cable = bad idea.
Can cause the cable to stretch and fail prematurely, also can cause the TO bearing to do same.
Stick to the factory setup - get that spring fitted, and try someone else's cable.

to be honest, that was much the same conclusion i had come to myself anyway. was curious to see what everyone thought on it anyway. for now i had decided to let it go anyway. i'm used to the height of it now.

i will get one of those springs and see how she goes.

silly question, where does the spring mount to? i know where the hole on the pedal itself, but the other end.

There's an anchor point in the floor - use a ruler or similar, hold it horizontal and straight ahead from the pedal hole, should give you the location.

It can be hard to locate amongst the soundproofing.

Hey nicco, slightly off topic, did you use a new clutch cable, and if so, what sort of $$ did you pay (PM if you want), cause i need a new one, and im sure thats part of the reason my clutch pedal sits out so far.

On mine, its quite the opposite. I can push the clutch in half way and changes gears. I rarely ever push it to the floor, just a little stab is all it needs to disengage?

I adjusted it 140mm from the floor.

Mine is the same and I have a Mal Wood HD clutch. Full engaged is about 2 cm from the top (I think) but it starts to grab about 1/4 way up the travel. Makes engagement a nice gradual thing which is probably a good thing on a high torque engine. Especialy when you are tryna eat a pie while shifting. :D

Tim: yeah i bought a brand new clutch cable. I rang around and got some quotes. Repco and Autobarn both wanted about $75 for the cable, but repco only wanted $10 to get it to Cairns. Autobarn was $15.

Super Cheap was $85 and Ford was $120.

I ended up getting mine from Repco.

Froudey: cheers for the tip.

You can also use an EB/ED cable - it's around 4-5" longer than EF/EL, but the inner cable travel is the same.
Be interesting to see if the price is greatly different.

Cool. I need a new cable (extractors have melted the outer, which im sure is causing mine to stretch), and my mate at ford spares quoted me $75 for a new ford one.
