Wasnt sure where to post this problem ive got with cruise control not working. Guess here will do?

Can is an ED 4.0.
What is the most common fault in the system?
Ive fitted a new steering wheel, so i take the bottons are working.
Im about to buy a 2nd hand cruise control unit cheap to see if its that part.

What else is there that could be preventing it to work?

Cheers guys.

first up did it work before?, does the cruise light up on the dash?
i guess the most common fault would be the vacuum hose that runs from the pump to the diaghragm and to the pedal switch...
there is a vacuum pump on the passenger side behind the washer bottle, that could have failed or the vacuum diaghram on the drivers side where the cable connects could have a hole in it??

to be honest ive never had a problem with the eb/ed cruise control...

if the light on the dash dont come up, providing the globe is good, it sounds like the unit is not turning on..
usually when you turn it on you hear the module thats in the centre console click..

nah it doesnt turn on at all. Im familiar with how it sounds from my fairmont.
So could it the CC unit itself or something inbetween that and the steering wheel?

When my brake light switch was faulty the cruise control wouldn't turn on. Mine is an EF so I don't know if it's set up differently but that's the only issue I've had with my cruise.

Is your an auto? If the ED uses a similar setup to the EF, there is a connector for a clutch pedal switch in the wiring loom. In the auto, it obviously isn't used, but the cruise control module will still look for the switch so it can disengage cruise when the clutch pedal is pressed. With no switch, there is no circuit, and cruise will not work. The factory solves this by inserting a plug into the connector that permanently bridges the two wires, creating a closed circuit, and the cruise control is happy as Larry. If yours is an auto, check that the connector has a plug in it. If not, you can bridge the connector with a short piece of wire - but it's a devil to get at.

Mines a manual. So could it be possible that this connector isnt even connected? Whereabouts on the clutch pedal is it?
