In what sense temporary? as in if you keep doing burnouts it'll happen again? thats obvious lol.

And yes, manual is definately next mod.

He got bands adjusted for $100, I can adjust them, no problem. But what happens when they brake? I don't know how to replace them, the manual only covers how to adjust them...?

They arent bands as in rubber , or anything like that, its like a clutch, sort of thing.

My NC did exactly the same thing - it went bloody hard too as it held the gears longer and had less friction on the drum due to the broken band. You will also find out you have no overdrive - the 2nd/overdrive band is broken. I pulled mine out and took it to the local trans shop - $400 got it fixxed.
