Hey Guys,

I have an AU car which I am removing the engine out of and I'm just after some steps on how to separate the engine from the gearbox. Such as removal of the bell housing and things like that?

Cheers,

Tyland

If the engine is out of the car or even if it is not (assuming you have removed the driveshaft and disconnected the wiring already), first remove the inspection plate in the front of the trans. Turn the engine over until you can see the torque converter bolts. Undo one and then turn the engine over to the next one, there are 4 of them. Next remove the engine to transmission braces on the left and right sides of the engine. Now, you should be ready to undo the bell housing bolts.

Be really careful because as you well know, autos are really freaking heavy.

And if you are separating the trans from the engine just to remove the engine, you can save yourself a lot of work by removing the engine and trans as a unit. There isn't much room to turn a spanner to undo the bell housing bolts.
