If you drive in crawling city traffic, a heavy duty clutch can be annoying as it's either engaged or not. Just try driving up onto ramps or carefully reversing into a tight parking spot and see what I mean.

I've just fitted a new Clutch Industries XR6 clutch. They're a firmer clutch and probably good enough to handle the power from modified NA motors (unless you're going to take it to the drag strip or do burnouts). I paid about $300 for it.

sommer_NL, the clutch you have is a Valeo Heavy duty.

Shortshift, i dunno about clutch industries..... i had a new one fitted when i did the manual conversion and it wasnt capable even with just 150rwkw, and i never did burnouts etc.

Was it slipping under hard acceleration or towing? I'm yet to try my new clutch at max power as the car's up on stands at present. I guess the next one up is Exedy as krisisdog just mentioned (while I was typing this out). I'm sure everyone will have a different opinion on this matter.

I was also thinking (generalising only) that women won't be impressed if they have a clutch that's too heavy to ride. I know my wife is going to complain when tries the new clutch after driving a Barina with a featherweight clutch.

I was using a PBR "RPM" clutch. Never had a problem with it. I don't ride the clutch either, its on quick, and out. No probs.

I've gone through 2 heavy duty clutches, one when the car was stock - it slipped pretty bad after doing skids in 2nd, and now just 'spirited' driving after the 1673 and LSD have been added.
5 puck ftw.

then you'll NEED more than a strong clutch, stick with a stocko xr one, give the box a little chance.

brass button will be way to harsh on the box, plus if you have a standard flywheel it will eat away at that slowly. I rekon get a ceramic cushioned button, highway brake and clutch do a kit for 390 + tax. got it in mine does wonders. :) chirps 2nd when i shift at 2000 rpm

Depends on what sort of power your putting out above stock, what sort of driving your doing and how you drive. Personally I've always found PBR RPM clutchs to be good. Had a great run with mine in an old Valiant with a worked 265 Hemi.
