Just in case anyone else wants to do this at some stage in the future.. here is how I've been doing it.

I'll do this in stages.. starting with the bollards.

These first photo will show how the bollards (EL and AU) do not attach to the vehicle in the same manner:

Image

Namely, the AU bollards are missing the thick wire that locks in the EL unit and the AU bollard has a plastic hook mount for it's own attachment that doesn't match anything in the EL.

So, what to do?

The plastic AU attachment mount on the bollard is fairly close to where the wire is on the EL bollard so here is a photo of what I did.

Image

Look closely at the AU mount in this photo, I drilled a hole though the mount (two sides of plastic) and used two nuts to lock the long thin bolts in place on the plastic. Did that on both sides and was all set to install them when I realized that the plastic mount fouled on the bracket in the EL that locks in the center pieces of the seats. Luckily they are not needed with the AU seats anyway, so off with their heads...

before:

after:
Image
(actually they are opposite sides but you get the idea.)
I just undid the two bolts and then bent the bracket back and forth till it snapped.

The finished result:

Image

As you can see.. perfect fit... they are locked in tight and have no gap... total time this bit took me was about 30 minutes, most of which was spent figuring out how I was gonna do it. ( I have a newborn.. 30 minutes is all I get at the moment)

hope that helps someone, I'll add the rest with photos later as I think AU seats into e series could be popular (should be too.. they look great.) Also BA seats are apparently similar to AU, and that's also a pretty cool option.

Oh, and if you're wondering, all that stuff on the paintwork in the photos is not scratches.. the car's been parked in my backyard for months and it's mostly sand and dirt and it gets on everything.. got sick of hosing it every week... it's going in my shed soon anyway.

Thaks for that.

I had figured out the front seat, and was stuck on the rear.

It just makes my black interior conversion that much cheaper 8-)

So whats the story with fitting AU front seats into a EL is what I wanna know, how much hassle is it. Also Ive read somewhere else that the BA seats will go into a EL, just not sure how much effort is needed to make them fit.

Well i've got front and rear ba xr6 seats so i will let you know how that goes. Hopefully it's as simple as that. I'll get the fronts in for sure

The front seats were easier than the back.. just more time consuming.

The short version is that you unbolt all the padded bits from both old and new seats, swap them over and rebolt them..

Well worth the effort I think.

ba rear seats are much different to au's completely different mounting brackets all round, not as wide, and bench seat is about half the thickness, after saying this tho nothing is impossible i have done the ba rear seat conversion before in my old eb and was a pain in the a**, here are some pics.

I'm doing it currently, check my build thread, I'll post pics as I go.

the car in those photos is long gone, sadly it got parted out and i didnt end up with many photos of the interior, those are the best i could find.
so i cant help much with pictures but baisicly if you use the search engine for the front seats there will be plenty of info on that they are pretty easy and a quick mod, as for the rears, i had to strip the ba seats and fit them over the e series frames, the smaller flip down section is the tricky bit because the ba skin is smaller then the e series frame, so you either cut the e series frame to suit or add aditional fabric to the ba skin to fit. this is of course using the ba foam too. all the mounting points are different so there is trimming involved, like cutting holes for your eb bracket to come through and closing off holes where the ba brackets were.
for the bench seat i submerged the eb framework from the eb seat into the ba one, the problem i had was the seat was really low as the ba foam is half the thickness of the eb. so you either settle with that result or you retrim the ba skin onto the eb foam...
i suggest that au rears is the way to go they are so much easier then ba.
but if you do have a crack at put some pics up as id like to see it done again, im hoping someone comes up with an easier solution.
let me know if you have anymore questions.
cheers Jesse

So, any more pics of exactly how this was done ...specifically the rears? I'm talking AU into EL here..

Does the AU rear bottom seat just drop straight in, or does it have / need loop-style mounting catches to fit, like the E-series?

Also, any more info, or more close up pics of how the rear bollards are modified, and where on the car they actually fit??

Cheers, MARK

Yep, saw that ...I just wanted a little more in-depth info of how the rears fitted up.

PM'd Frankie, but no reply as yet ...is he still an active member on here, or does he have a different username now?

I'm still around.. Just got rellies over so not had any time to browse.

Have a look at this for the bollard:
Image

If you look at the AU one, you can see the bolt I put in place to hook it into place. It's been ages now and they are both still there so obviously it works.

As for the bottom, I was going to get the AU clips and drill them in, but instead I made some brackets to stop the loop from sliding forwards.

Here you can see how I snapped off the bracket that locked the EL seat in the back position:
Image
The AU bollard won't go in without it.

The end result:

cheers
