Disconneting the keep alive wire to the ECU will cause it to reset, and will need to relearn each time. In some cases this can take a few hundred kays of driving for it to get back to 'normal'.

It will work, but not to its' best efficiency will learning.

as its a speedway car i would say there is no real need for the keep alive wire.
as afaik its only there for closed loop/idle quality and fault code memory.
if its got a poor idle and you want to improve the idle quality than connect it.
but it will still perform the same at full throttle without it, as in open loop(wot) the ecu runs on the factory programed map..
