XR Fan your system sounds good, simple and good gear if it's installed correctly it would be quite nice.

There are different typers of sound deadaening for different applications.

You can use a foam type with contours and ridges directly behind midrange drivers to prevent standing waves, this is especially true in doors.

The stick on stuff is good for stopping rattles and gettign rid of any ring on that happens with metal panels ringing in sympathy.

Spray and paint on stuff are available for hard to reach places..

Yeah as for install with my car.... i cant exactly go extravagant with the Sub in the boot i really dont have much too work with, the cons of having a 80L LPG tank in the boot Everything else is pretty good thou. I like the way ive mounted my amp.

The sound deading atm ive just used underbody sound proofing spray, used a 2 full cans. BUT i have just ordered in some more sound proofing, getting a heap of the proper stuff in a couple of weeks. Costing me bloody $100, its just called Sound Shield, like a really dense foam matting with glue underneath. I used a heap of it when i had my XF infact i used about $200 worth when i did the parcel shelf lol!! Bloody works thou.

I made a set of 6'9's running off a HU sound like 12' sub!! The bass just sounded sooo much nicer and clearer. I was very happy with the way that went. You can buy the Sound Shield stuff at Autobarn.

Top Article there Aaron. CAA use to be a fantastic resource for this stuff, but from what i can tell it has been dieing a slow death.

With regards to a budget SQ setup you covered it very very well. In refrence to the "you dont need to spend $1500" comments, you covered this aspect very very well.

My setup is by no means a pro SQ setup however, what you listed for $1500 would make for a more than adiquate 1st SQ setup, all for the cost of my HU and power cable.

Thanks, CAA has some good discussion, but a lot of other not so good discussion around it so it can be hard to find the good info amoungst the bad. Also a lot of people there claim to be experts and you are sometimes unsure who to listen to.

Your system sounds great, well over $1,500 there.

As for Supremo's i had a pair i was selling and they took ages to sell off. No one realised the value in them and once sold i had a few messages showing interest. Oh well thats the way it goes.

Budget! What budget? I wouldn't consider my system super high end when my gear was new it wasn't exactly cheap though, consider this an Alpine 7620e $1539, an Alpine 5980 $1099, an Alpine chm-630 $599, a Rockford Fosgate Punch 60ix $799, a Rockford Fosgate Punch 40ix $599, Kef Uni-q's $599.
Thats over $5000 with no subs (as they have now sold) and that was in 1994, and that doesn't include wiring, installation, capacitors, sound deadening etc.
It is very easy to get carried away and budgets are rarely stuck to!!!!

Yes indeed thats true.

When i first got into audio i could never image a system over $20 and yet it comes and goes so easily...

I would just like to add that for spl a subs linear xmax has to be considered too as a 15" sub with 2mm xmax wont go as loud as a 10" sub with 30mm xmax.

has anyone heard of a Planet Audio FU12-2 Sub. I got one, but it seems to be a very picky sub, when it comes to enclosure size. I know it can go much harder and sound much better then what it does at the moment. It sounds awesome when you sit inside the car crank it up, but when you stand around the back, with the boot open, its sound crap. Everyone just tells me to put it in the right enclosure size, but i cant find the specs for it at all on the net.

I think everyone should have to read something like this.
The ammount of people I see at soundoffs running a s**t sub of a tiny amp with full bass boost and gain is just sad.

I do agree with the 1500dollars tho.
I think my system is more spl. But I still wanted it to sound good.

Plus wiring that's about spot on and last time with a 15in polk pulled 137.5....but the kicker is way louder.
