Have just bought my son a TE Cortina. To engage the clutch, you have to put the pedal to the metal...how would I check to see whether the clutch needs replacement (no problem if that is the case) or whether it is something else. The guy I bought it from reckons its always been like that...

is it a cable or hudraulic clutch? if its a cable one the cable may be badly adjusted if its a hydraulic one check that the fluid level is OK and that someone hasnt done something dodgy and mismatched the master/slave other than that you may need to pull the box out and take a look at things (as im assuming you have to push the pedal all the way in to disegage the motor from the gearbox yes?)
