Hi all,

Although I dont own one I have always liked TX5 turbo 2.2s. I reckon they look great and with basic mods can be a great sleeper.

Thought it would be good to hear from owners, see pics and read about modifications adn performance gains

Cheers

Hey dude,

My g/f owns & drives a 88 Tx5 turbo. It has been fit with a mx6 gearbox (closer ratios i believe), and had the boost wound up to 12psi. Has a set of 17" mags on it, lowered on kings springs, rebuilt front end with full nolethane bush pack, pedders comfort gas shocks. Gotta get around to rebuilding the back end soon, it's getting worn out, the a/c needs repairs as do the padding in the front seats, but the car is still pretty neat, goes hard & isn't expensive for her to run.

There is a pic of it are in my gallery pics. ToranaGuys Gallery

Cheers

ive owned 2... one a sedan that i convered to turbo... get car. no one knew what it was and use to eat clubsports and xr8's. not standard of course...
and i now on a proper tx5 turbo.. that ive been in the process of doing up.. fantastic little cars.. dont produce heaps of power but give a butt load of torque.
they do have there weaks spots (heavy handed guys that smash gears and drop clutches) not me but its a common problem.

great car for a daily for some fun and decent fuel eco

if you wana see some modded tx5/mx6/626 jump on the tx5 club webpage.

My g/f's keeps up with them for a good while. Just 12psi boost, hd cluctch & a better than stock bov. Also has a K & N filter, but that's so we are not throwing filters away at each service. They apparently don't do much more for power than stock filters, but they stop stock filters landing in the land fill.

Next time the head is off, it's alloy so i imagine it will be sometime in the next year or two, i'll be wanting to get it ported for some more flow, and maybe pick up a slightly bigger turbo, well bigger on the cold side, not so much the hot side, we like how quickly it will come on boost right now, but more flow = more power at less psi than the smaller turbo.

A bigger fmic may be on the cards too, if a bigger turbo is fit.

Cheers

very impressive and ill bet it will keep up with later model ones until road speeds anyway. my girlfriend used to have an auto 626 2.2T (before i knew her) and even with a stuffed turbo it was apparently a rocket. what sort of fuel economy can you get out of them around town? have you fellas found tehm reliable (are your high millage examples?)

My g/f's is reliable, has about 250,000 on the clock, but about 10,000 on the fresh engine. Getting around 10/100 avg economy, it's a 5spd.

Cheers
