hey guys
I`m looking at now purchasing a 2002 BA one tonne ute with a petrol motor in it with 168,000 K`s and would like to know what is involved with replacing it with a Dedicated gas motor.
Can this be done without to much fuss? I guess i have to purchase a tank as well but was also told the wiring loom/Harness would have to be changed.
The car is selling for $6500 ono
Is it worth doing or should i just purchase one with the e-gas motor from factory?
Any info apprreciated
Cheers

Mate it can be done, it wouldnt be all that difficult, the engine will bolt straight in, but yeah you need to change the tank, and the wiring looms, and some other bits and peices, and because your dealing with LPG, you'd probably have to get a Gas place to fit it all to remain legal. It's probably gonna be better to buy one that's already dedicated gas, or just get a Dual Fuel or straight gas conversion on the standard engine, they dont need to be dedicated gas motors to run well on Gas.

EDIT: Just noticed it's really cheap, if it's a good car, buy it anyway !

Cheers for the advice mate.
I got the ute for $5,800!
He had driven it 100 k`s to meet me and just after he pulled up i got under it and there were no leaks anywhere!
Motor,Trans,Tail shaft and Diff were all clean at joins(No visible leaks)
Oil changed every 5000K`s and all fluids filters done 1200 k`s ago
Got all receipts plus receipts for $1000 upgrade on front end:
New front tyres & wheel alignment
New front Bearings/Hubs
New rotors & Pads all done in May last year :D
I`m stoked!!

I would drop an Egas donk in & then SVI it.... a motor built for LPG running SVI would go pretty good....

Sounds good bro.....but what does SVI it mean/stand for.
I have found a (Apparently) complete dedicated gas motor out of a BA for $700 ono with less than 50,000 k`s on it that i can pick up.
What should i be looking/ checking for and if it is complete what would I expect to find? eg- wiring looms etc.
Cheers

Sequential Vapour Injection

Costs a little more to install but would be well worth it...

Then its just a donk change, Put all your manifolds and loom on the Egas motor.
With a mixer ring you should be good for the 156kw at the fly. with SVI 182+kw at the flywheel, but I would only run 98 octane petrol on it tho :)

+1 for not buying or using the ford Egas gear. I'm driving a BF Egas falcon around for a few weeks and I really can't wait to get rid of it.
It's dosile slug.

Buy a petrol falcon and put SVI on it. If you really must, fit the egas motor to get the higher compression.

The boot floor of the Egas falcon is also different, the Egas tank will not fit inplace of the petrol tank on a regular falcon.

I think you are missing the point Tickford....

He has a BA that runs petrol but looking at putting in a Egas motor and running it on LPG...

With the higher compression of the Egas motor and the stronger internals should be a win win on SVI....

Reads to me like he's looking at buying a petrol one and wants to fit the egas gear.

But we agree, SVI with high comp = winning.

You don't need the Egas motor unless your after the slightly higher compression, they are stronger to withstand a backfire. If you go Injected gas then there is little concern about backfiring anyway.
IMHO spend the money on a better gas system rather than the Egas motor.

I have a petrol BA xr6 ute....and recently purchased a damaged egas tonner ftited with tipper tray and airbag suspension.....The plan was to take the goodies off the wrecked vehicle and put on the xr6.

I also toyed with idea of swapping it to the gas engine.....so from what i read here i'd be better off selling the gas engine and going after market to mod the petrol engine ? I would still like to go straight gas and use the tanks from the wrecked tonner. A waste of time? suggestions? Thanks

drop in the egas motor and vapour inject it.... with the Egas tanks would have an awsome range too

Vapour Injected LPG is akin to Fuel Injection to Petrol engines....

There is no or near zero power loss with VSI as the old system uses a mixer ring it does suffer some power loss. The only reason that the egas engine is rated at 156kw is because it uses a mixer ring to deliver LPG. This restricts the intake to 43mm... Now remove that restriction add VSI coupled with the extra compression of the BA egas engine of 10.7:1 (petrol model is 9.7:1) which is rated at 182kw should see a rough (guessing) power output of 190kw and thats before any mods!!!

Even if you keep the petrol as a backup you would have to use 98ron fuel or higher due to the higher compression.
