hi guys just recently installed pioneer 4 channell amp and pioneer splits myself in my fg xr6, just incase anyone is considering this it is quite easy i built and carpeted my own rack designed for pioneer 4 channel and mono plus processor to cut the stock h/u feed back at low levels so far only installed the 4 channel and splits and it is soooooo much clearer sound ( once you turn the volume past the very low feedback hiss). am keen to post pics but not very computer savvy so help with how to do that on a forum would be appreciated.

quite interested in seeing pics of this. ive changed my rear speakers already, and am looking into changing the fronts. did you have premo sound to begin with? im wondering how much clearance room is behind the a pillar trim to mount the tweeter. i also have twin 12 inch subs in a box with a mono amp and a 4 channel for the interior speakers, so specs on the amp tray would be interesting too. do i need a processor or can i just use line level convertors for the sub wiring?

its not neccessary to have processor but apparently the only thing able to remove low level feed back, as for a pillar there is supposably enough room as i think thats where the tweeters come in the premo sound optioned cars however i only had stock system and just mounted my tweeters on the tiny flat plastic piece where a manaul mirror adjuster would sit in older cars i just screwed the half egg shell mount to that plastic bit. if you can tell me how to add pics to a post i can do it right now mate. i actually built a straight up and down rack to hold the lot as its a ute it sits snug between the seats attatched to the back wall.

i have the premo sound as i have a g6e, i just dont want to buy the splits and find out the tweeters wont fit. i want to keep it looking as stock as possible, so if i can use the factory location points that would be good. how did you mount the speakers into the door as from what i recall the factory speaker screw hole shape is an odd shape?

i took out the standard speaker which is moulded to the mount at first and cut the speaker from the centre and sunk the new 6s in they fit quite well however had to revise this as they had enough clearance to get the door skin back on but when the base notes hit the woofer was lapping at the door skin.
so pulled that out laid it on 7 ply plywood traced around the stock speaker mount to get the odd shape right marked the screw holes in the same place then cut out with a jig saw so it was a flat version of the mount then screwed 10 mm straight plastic spacers to that lining up the edges perfectly then sunk the speaker into my home made mounts then whacked em in the doors and haven had a problem since.

interesting. the rears are the same shape, however i have found out that there is spacers available. i bought a set of alpine sp600? and they had an adapter plate looked like a starfish in them. fitted the factory screw holes in the door perfectly.

yeah i couldn't be bothered hunting for specific spacers haven even seen the rears yet just using the stocks As infill speakers faded right down clean enough for now will eventually do them Aswell. Not much room inside the doors for decent sized crossovers had a hard time securing them, lots of good quality double sided tape lol.

I am also looking to install a 4 channel amp into my fg. I am just wondering where the best place to splice into the speaker wiring for it. Preferably where it comes out of the icc so I don't have to run wires all around the car. If anyone can help that would be good.

I ended up splicing into the wires in the doors and running them all the way to the boot into the line converters, then amps, then running the speaker wires all the way back up again.
All in all it isn't that hard to fit them down the inside of the trim. |
