Does anybody know of anyone in Sydney who sells parts for tial wastegates? My problem is it appears my Tial wastegate has an 18psi spring in it. I hooked up our special wastegate pressure tester at work tonight and the valve doesnt start to lift off its seat untio 18psi is applied to it and fully open at 25psi. A bit too much and possibly (more like deffinately) the cause of my blown head gasket. I was thinking a 6psi spring and a boost controller. Any help would be appreciated.

GCG sell Tial gates and parts... I was just there today getting a new tial flange... give them a call, they have most of the Tial stuff in stock.
That seems high as normally all the Tial gates come with 10psi springs... mine did anyway.

If you don't apply pressure to the valve itself (i.e exhaust pressure) the wastegate will open at a higher pressure when only applied to the pressure port. The wastegate spring you have is probably a 10psi spring. If you don't have a boost gauge then you are only guessing what the problem is.

HEad gaskets are allways the first to leak on ageing motors that get boosted... wack a new one in and will be dandy again.
Dont think you hit 18psi though as you would have heard some fairly loud detonation... I detonated my EA on 24psi with the 550cc injectors and timing waaaay back and the deto0nation noise was really really loud

I do have a boost gauge but its never been above 15psi as thats where the motor cuts out due to lean out. And I dont think exhaust gases are going to make 8 pound of difference if at all.

The thing is that head was a reconditioned unit fitted less than 8 months ago. And its detonated plenty of times thank you very much  . And as I said earlier the motor cuts out at 15psi. The air/fuel ratio gauge takes a nose dive and the engine cuts out. Obviously a built in precaution by Ford, if it gets too lean it cuts the spark.

Senton, Try Geoff for springs, he was able to help me out. Also what size wastegate are you running.. I've got a 38mm one, and I'm able to adjust it by using a bleader valve on the boost feed to the top fitting. If you need more info PM me and I'll send you a diagram...

Cheers

Its cool dude, all sorted. The reason I didnt go to Geoff was because I needed it for the weekend. And a bleed valve will only increase boost which I dont need.
