I've just bought a falcon again, ED XR6 in manual 1994 model. I'm very excited, going to restore it for keeps.

Anyone got any tips in regards bringing the engine back to it former glory, its got 216k on it.

Do a compression test first.

Good service, replace all fluids, oil, coolant, brake fluid, diff oil, gear box service, replace fuel filter, o2 sensor, check disks and pads.

Replace plugs and leads, check dizzy cap and rotor button.

Check the diff to make sure it is still LSD :D .

I'll give the comp test a go, guess if I get 150 to 160 psi over all cylinders it will be strong healthy motor.

Are the ECU's wideband setup?

Picked it up today, think the oil in the engine is old, blue smoke under acceleration, but runs great for an older car. I'll be doing that comp test over the weekend see what happens.

Hey mate good timing I'm pretty much doing the exact same thing right now, think mines a 93, ED XR6 5 speed, lemans red, i've got a broken window regulator drivers side, I've got a vacuum leak somewhere in the aircon system, steering wheel is coming apart, paints pretty wrecked, faded trim etc, gonna see if I can bring it back to it's former glory, I'll get some pics up tonight

The paint on this XR6 I got is ok, one spot needs repainting and some light paintless reapir on the roof. I actually openned the glove box yesterday and found a bunch of receipts. Looks like this car has had alot of suspension work so plus for me there. Brakes, aircond and ignition done recently too. I do have this feeling I'll have to do some engine work. Going to pull out the interior soon, particularity to clean the carpet, it's in good order but has stains, nothing the carpet cleaner from the supermarket wont fix. Pulled cluster and aircond controls out to repair the plastic gears for the cluster and the aircond temp slider is busted. Going to have to Jerry up the slider for the time been.
