Hi guys,
Ive got an xr6 turbo that surges / hesitates under light throttle / heavy load. It revs out to 6k under WOT no problem, no noticeable misfire / hesitation at all. When cruising along at a constant speed and the car comes to a hill it will refuse to accelerate lightly and then all of a sudden takes off. Sometimes cruising it loses speed and does the same thing. It will do it when accelerating as well. Goes from 10% power to 50% power like a light switch was turned on with no change in accelerator position. It can happen on and off boost, probably more so off boost. No codes, its not the tranny or lockup.

If you give it a good squirt and then try to take it easy it seems worse.
It also idles very rough and hunts in gear. Engine mounts are fine. Bring the revs up to 1k and it idles smooth. Issue seems to be worse when its off boost but no signs of a vac leak
Im thinking coil packs but I don’t want to drop $250 on genuine ones only to find its something else. Got ½ a tank of premium so i doubt its low / crap fuel.

any ideas?

thanks,

Jay

what did you use to check for codes, you need to have a scan tool hooked up and check all the data pids. When connected to a scan tool you will see in an instant your o2 values long and short term fuel trims map sensor volts, position of your camshafts and the duty cycle, etc and so on, all in a few minutes without lifting the bonnet. You can have driveability problems with out the check engine light coming on with stored codes.
