Hey guys,

last week I changed gear from Park to Drive and upon doing so heard a 'pop' sound ... I reached Drive fine, thinking nothing of it. When I went to park the car, move the gearshift back, I noticed the lever was really slack and wobbled forwards and backwards - though stays in the desired gear...

I'm hoping to find a solution to this - a local mechanic 'didn't have time' to help out - and that's fair I guess, but the issue may get worse (?) or not, but either way, I want to fix it.

Anyone have any wisdom they can shed on this topic?

Hope I've explained this well...

regards,

J

Maybe check and see if the gear stick is loose where it attaches to the column? The roll-pin could be all flogged out from use, and causing your issue?

Easy fix - stick a T-bar shifter in it. 8-)

Yep I'll need to get it apart and have a squizz. Sounds like a pin or something of the kind broke.

Thanks bud

The good thing is if you do have to change to a floor shifter, it's all EF/EL stuff, so the parts are cheap and easy to get.

Ok I finally got my hands on a Gregory manual. Seems like the roll pin is the issue.

This now presents two issues:

1 where do you source these?
2. How do I install the pin?

Much appreciated.

Any industrial supply store will have a range of roll pins, places like Blackwood's, AE Baker, etc.

To get the pin out, make or modify a small g-clamp to push the pin out. Last one I did - different application - same process - I modded a G-clamp by drilling a hole for the pin to push thru, and attached a small bolt to use as the "pusher" to get the pin out. Just make sure the pusher cant get stuck in the hole...

Get the pin out first, then try and get a new one slightly larger, to take up the slack. If you can, it might be better to drill the entire assy to a larger size to square everything up, and then fit a larger pin.

Best of luck.

Guys,

Finally got a chance to have a deeper look into this. The issue is actually that a spring fell out - which presses against the column shift.

There is another thread on here about this: post1439810.html

I need to get a replacement spring... and some advice on replacing it would be dynamite.

Cheers
