the other week i lined up against a 351 xy clevo he had 15inch sloters as the light went green me car just bolted down and went hard while the xy went sideways before even moving so if i do have the jump on starting due 2 getting traction straight away would the 351 still catch me ?

yep, he'd catch you... assuming you don't have a stroked and blown 5.0

I have a 351 XD and between it and the XY the two cars would be not much different when it comes to drivetrain and engine. Assuming the XY is manual (hence loss of traction off the line, it could've have been stalled up or something, but then I would assume the guy new how to launch properly), then he would've caught towards the shift into 3rd. That is where I normally used to catch WRXs and the like, which in my XD happened in a blink of an eye!

Did he have bald tyres?
But seriously, the guy just may not have known how to launch the clevo
cos street clevo's dont need to be smoked to get them moving ,they have good low to mid range torque. Even a 400 hp clevo can still launch with minnimal spin, I think the EB will take off a bit faster because the lower power meaning little or no spinning but by the end of second gear the clevo will drive past you
I'm assuming you have an auto and near stock 5.0l ,as my XR8 sound simmilar

My EB loses traction big time if i just "gun it". but when she gets goin, its great.I really have to ease it off the line and then squeeae the power down.

A dead stock 351 should light the tyres on standstill, if not, it need looking at.
