I have not had to re-rego a car in NSW before so all this inspection stuff is a tad bewildering.

I need to pay my rego to the RTA and get an inspection (so my letter says). WHere can I get this done? Anywhere? Anyone recommend a place?

WHat is the story with compulsary 3rd party insurance? In WA it is government run and you pay it with your rego but here it seems as if it is a deregulated industry. Anyone got any pointers or recommendations for this?

CHeers.

most workshops will have a sign displaying pinkslip or blueslip inspections
it cost $35 alot of workshops r online with the RTA so the RTA has a online report of ya pinkslip b4 u get there or even better 4 the busy people u can do all of it on the NET if u had car inspected at a ONLINE inspection workshop plus have greenslip

So my car is already rego'd does that mean I need a blue slip or a pink slip?

WHat does the inspection entail? WHat sort of things do they focus on?

The green slip is the 3rd party is it?

blue slip=unregisterd, a very detailed inspection of the car
pink slip=registerd car ,a general saftey inspection to see if the car is road worthy

greenslip=CTP means if u hurt some one or property they will be coverd but you still need 3rd party property if u hit another car as CTP will not cover cars & trucks

Ring every insurance company you can think of for the CTP as prices can vary heaps as it has been privatised, and it makes no difference which company you get it from, as long it is payed.

You have to take your rego papers, pink slip, and green slip (CTP) to the RTA to pay for your rego, if dont have all 3 they wont take your money.

I did an online thing at the MAA or whatever it is called and they calculate the cost for about 10 insurers. There was little difference if I played around with my driving reord or my accident history. Man, this system is such a rip off... I wanna go back to perth!

Now all I need to find is a garage to do the inspection!

go the NRMA as they will discount if u take greenslip, ctp and 3rd party property or full comprehensive insurance personally i would go the full insurance as insurance companies always look after fully insured customers more than 3rd party escpecially on claims

Yeah Dr Hoon it use to cost me around $620 for a years rego in NSW. I think you can do your Rego for 6 months now. Pink slips for $35 can be done while you wait. I found I always found I got the Pink slips easy enough with just the odd tyre needing to be replaced sometimes. The biggest Wallet killer is the price of the CTP greenslip which usually cost me $328 including GST.Then the rego itself which costs around $250. So then you take your pinkslip, greenslip and rego paper and a bag full of cash to the RTA and should be out of their in 15 minutes with 12months rego.

Dr Hoon, the inspection is really simple. They just check that there's no obvious rust, the brakes work, and the engine runs, and your tyres aren't bald (I think). That's about it!

Once your car gets over 10 years, it rockets up.

Cars under 10 years are usually $200-350 (depending on driving record, garaged address and a few other things).. Over 10 years they seem to rocket up over $500.
