VGA = 640x480
XGA = 1024x768
WXGA = 1366x768 (Wide screen version of XGA)
SXGA = 1280x1024
UXGA = 1600x1200 (If you find an LCD that can do this, let me know! I only see them on laptops :( )

Hope it helps for chosing car PC LCD's :)

That sounds about right. It would make my screen WXVGA. I loosely used the term 'VGA' to indicate it wasn't Composite or S-Video :)

Im a bit new at this but dosent S-video and composite concern the inputs/outputs, Them being better quality and resulting in a sharper, better image?

Spot on. Basically the more info you transmit down one line, the more they intefere with each other and the worse the quality.

Basic hierachy:

RF: ie the coax that comes from ur antennae to the TV. As bad as it gets. Colour, luminence (black/white) and sound are all transmitted down one path.

Composite: This sees colour and luminence share one path. Sound must be transmitted down a seperate line.

S-Video: Much like composite but colour and luminence travel down a seperate line.

RGB: The best. Red Green and Blue each get their own line to transmit information on. Like a DVD player with 3 RCA cables for video. VGA is based on this.

I think an LCD that accepts VGA is better than one that takes S-video/composite if you are going to connect it to a PC. The reason being is that the PC output's VGA natively, whereas S-video would require a conversion that I am sure would degrade the signal (maybe just a tiny bit, but no conversion is perfect...)

My effort, was years ago now, hence the dodgy digital camera output.

1600x1200 is common in 19" and bigger LCDs I've got a pair on NEC 19" LCDs on my desk at work running 1600x1200, sorry 3200x1200 :). And my 17" home pair doing 1280x1024 each - 2560x1024.

Yep, on 19" and above it is easy to find. Try finding a 15" (or smaller) LCD that does 1600x1200 :) You can get them on Laptops, but nothing else.

I'd like a high res screen, say WXGA at 11" for an in car DVD... but I can't find any. :(
