The manual trans is the weak point really only capable of around 200rwkw. You can push it further but you have to treat it nicely, no flat shifting etc.

You can upgrade the internals to T5Z standards but even then if you are pushing high power the T5 is going to be a weak link. You really need to look at the tremec range but obviously they are $$$$$

The Tremec TR3550 starts from about $3500-4000 I think, box only. Probably won't get any change out of $5k for a conversion kit.

I know some people who have run mid 200rwkw through the T5 but obviously you will have to be really carefull. You could also look at changing to auto although that would be criminal in some peoples books, but they can handle a lot of power if kept cool and is much easier to drive with big power.

I run 232rwkw through a T5 - it is a commodore box though. My mechanic reckons they are tough as nails.

I reckon do your power mods - if you end up f**k your gearbox, just chuck in a second hand one from a wreckers and baby it until you can afford a flash one.

The T5 is at the limit with 240 flkw if you want a box that will last for ever. If you give it a fairly hard time it will start reading it's own eulogy, hence the change to the Tremec box for the XR8 at 260 fwkw.

Really though it is torque that hurts them, especially when abused with dumped clutches and flat shifting (why anyone would flat shift with a street car gearbox with synchro's ????.......).

Even the T5Z is pushing the limit as it is still, basically just a T5.

Got a quote from Mal Wood for a TKO 500 5 speed for $5150. I think a T56 is a few quid more as well! Expensive to say the least and as a result I will probably just hold onto the T5 untill it craps itself in a big way!

I reckon though.........make big power and see what breaks. If it does you know you need a tougher one.
