A mate at work and i have been scheming, and have come up with a plan.

Start with either an XA-->C sedan or coupe, or an XR-->XY sedan body and drop in the engine, gearbox and basically anything thing else worth scavenging.

Drivelinewise, would this be too hard, hopefully (this is the plan) nick the engine, box, custom tailshaft, diff, hubs and brakes, power steering. All out of a BA.

Or is this purely dreaming, otherwise, this scheme sounds all to viable, scary, i dont have that kinda money!!! :?

Yeah it is possible, someone from street machine got an XY GT(faker?) and stuck the motor, gearbox, diff, (suspension?) and everything else into it from an EL GT(I think, was definately an 8). And then to top it off, the interior went in as well. Apparently the dash was slightly narrower, but they got it to fit. The diff was also narrower than XY, but only by 30mm or something like it. Ended up tucking the wheels under the guards quite nicely. Would have cost a mint, be hard to do, and maybe not worth the money if youre short, but if you had lots of money, it would be an awesome car.

i reckon the biggest dramas would be getting the electrical side set up right, as well as bringing the fuel/emissions system up to spec, although i've heard a couple of EF/EL I6's have been successfully transplanted into XY's

there is actually a company that does it specially, they transplant the I6 moters in to 'X' series cars, i can try and dig up a link if any one is interested?

It was a 165kw XR8 engine, EF I think.

XY's are narrower than E series, infact all Falcons post XY are wider.

It was common practice to use a XY type 9" diff housings in later Falcons to allow for larger rims without changing offset.

Not joking - Know how hard it was to dig up a XY length 9" housing that hasn't been f**ked with!!!

I went to tafe with the guy that had that car. It was all EF XR8 into an XY. Had the plates INJ GT when it was in NSW. All up it cost him 25g's and he ended up selling it to some guy in Adelaide for about 12g's. The new owner had rego troubles in SA cause of the shaker being fitted to the newer engine and also shakers were only fitted to GT's and not falcon 500's and fairmonts. I remember the new owner writing into Street machine and complaining about the treatment he got from the rego authorities in SA. This was about 4 or 5 years ago.
