hey all,

Just wanting to know if I was to 5L manual conversion to my el fairmont which is now a 6cyl auto. The ecu would be an ems 8860.

My questions are, Does the dash have to changed i.e tacho or can its settings be changed by ford?
Cause I know on holdens you can program the dashes for either with tech 2.

I know id have to change the radiator and hoses and a few other bits and pieces but is there anything major I should know about that I come across?

I know the trip computer wont work without the factory ecu but what about climate control?

You need the V8 ECU as well as the V8 transmission ECU, harnesses, pedal box etc.. Where are you getting the engine? If it's from a wrecker, they should be able to supply you with everything you need as there are quite a few things that need to be done.

A manual wont have a transmission ecu.
And I know all the basic stuff like the pedal box and s**t was just more concerned about all the electric stuff

cluster is the same between 6 and 8 the tacho gets its 'pulse' from the p.c.m. the radiator and fans are also the same. as is the tailshaft ect.
you will need to keep the standard p.c.m as it controls more than just the engine and auto. thats why they are called p.c.m (powertrain control module.) you will need it to control speedo and tacho, smartlock ect.
you can just piggy back the new computer with the old pcm
