Hi, My 1996 Fairlane Ghia with an aftermarket LPG system and 550k up was getting me 8 klm to the litre (country) when I bought it 3 years ago. Then I heard that by 'tweaking' the computer you could improve the economy, so I took it to a 'specialist' auto gas workshop, and they did a 'service' and calibrated the computer. After this my economy was down to 7 klm/litre, so I took the car to the same (taxi) service place that the previous owner used to use and had it checked. They told me that all of the settings were correct. I then found that my economy had dropped to 6 klm/litre so I took it back to the original place and asked them to have another look. They said that the system was clogged with 'dirty fuel' (tar) and told me how BP had brought in all of this cheap gas from Indonesia and it was 'loaded' with tar. They cleaned the system out as best they could, but now my economy has dropped to 5 klm/litre (country) driving. What can i (realistically do to get back my economy?

clogged with tar my a**

the convertors can become clogged with oil which is in very small amounts in the lpg and can cause the convertor to work inefeciaently ( SP )

have u changed the plugs and leads etc? lpg needs to have a top notch ign system to work at best

what about the air filter? is it new or old and dirty?

That's wax Frank.

If your economy has dropped that bad since they cleaned it out then get it tuned, read through the LPG tuning thread, there are tips in there from myself and Mcgyver.

When i first bought my EF it wouldn't run on LPG, i stripped the convertor and found a HUGE chunk of wax, it's the slimiest s**t you've ever felt, it's thick like grease but feels like glue.

Thanks for the tips, Guys.
I am resetting the ECU as a starter point, and then I might check the converter for 'clogging'
Any more advice would be welcome.

Check that your air cleaner is totally clean and try a different brand of LPG. You might also benefit from backing off your power valve.

cheers
Keith

Thanks Keith, I can see where that might help.
