That's right folks,

Many thanks to Kris (kday) for putting together a doco on how to replace your pesky and worn out factory central locking with an after market kit from Jaycar.

Head over to http://www.fordmods.com/phpBB2/documents.php?doc=74 and check it out.

Kris joins the ever growing number of members who are contributing to Fordmods.

More are in the pipeline so stay tuned. If you have something you have put together or need some help please let me know!

Happy.

Good doco, but does it still work with the factory keyfob. I have the steelmate alarm, and it came with its own remote. Also, wouldnt it just be easier to replace the actuators with the jaycar items and that is the end of the wiring. Any advice, as i need this for the 5.0, my drivers door will now only respond to the key in the lock
Brett

At a guess, I'd say you could use the Jaycar actuators with the smartlock trigger... someone can confirm though! :)

Yes, provided you have a master actuator wired in with the other slaves. Bear in mind that if a door is not closed properly, the actuators will unlock again, but you won't get the horn blipping to notify you - though it's not hard to close doors properly.

My XH is wired to work with either alarm or smartlock central locking.

Hook the alarm lock/unlock lines to the corresponding BEM lines (yellow/black & red/yellow)and to the lock/unlock lines of the relay unit.

They're not a direct wiring replacement. You can wire up all units as slaves, but there are trade offs - will work with alarm keyfob only, not smartlock keyfob, can't lock all doors using keylock - so best to add a master. This means adding 2 wires to the drivers door.

Is this with the std actuator system ??

Again, well done Kris.

Ford actuator problems are now an easy fix - Get rid of 'em . . . . . :P

There is a better way. Had a Cyclops alarm fitted to a friends EL (any alarm with a immobliser will do I spose). The immobliser shuts down the smartlock system and the central locking is disabled from doing it's spastic attacks.

Since threadmining is pretty popular lately, I hope this one is reasonably useful . . . . .

The aftermarket actuators sound better than the originals as we know, but I've found in the wagon's particularly, they are pretty noisey, with a particular metal rapping noise. The actuator boots seem to split also over time also.
You can fit 5 watt resistors inline, to reduce the force - you may need to experiment with the size to get the desired effect, too high resistance, and they won't have full travel.

I've found 3.3ohms for the rears, and 2.2.ohms for the fronts, seems to work well - the noise refinement is nearly of the std of a BA.

It'll most likely be on a different link - Phong did update a few a while ago in another thread.

After ten years it's a little hard to remember :?:
