Just got the lpg system serviced today & the mechanic said there has been problems in SE Qld with gas containing traces of oily tar.
This screwed up a diaphragm in the converter which needed to be replaced on mine today.
He said to use Caltex Vitalgas only, as they make their gas to above the australian standard, which unfortunately does allow some oily sludge to be present.
Anyone heard of this????

There is almost always some tar or 'wax' present in the lpg. The best way to overcome this is to have your gas leave the converter from the bottom, that way the sludge doesn't build up in the system.

For example on OMVL systems you have the option for a top or bottom mount line to the throttle body. If yours feeds from the top get it swapped over.

I had done 40,000k's on lpg when I checked the diaphram. I had maybe the size of a 10 cent piece of sludge at the bottom of the converter.

cheers
Scott

yes there is a standard aparently
it allows 20 something per something of oily contaminant
the mechanic said caltex impose their own standard on their lpg of having 0 sludge, and not the allowable 20
