during the weekend i went to reset the trip meter and suddenly neither it or the odometer is working, any ideas on wat will cause this?

Who cares, what a bonus!
The odometer in an ED is mechaincal you may have jammed it inside. You might unjam it by pushing the reset button several times, or you may need to pull out the cluster and dismantle it, remove the speedo and go from there.

Somebody a while back mentioned that the EA-D clusters had a habit of frying a capacitor in the odometer circuitry. This being the case, look for fryed components in the odometer assy, expecially for capacitors with bulging tops etc.
That said, i have never been inside the cluster of my EB, but i'm going to have to soon cause my odo has failed also...

this is common as a***hole in E series cars now.. they break a spring inside the odometre/tripmeter. It is possible to replace the spring but once its broken ones it'll do it again so basically your options are
1. new cluster of same time 2. use it as an excuse to goto a mid series one 3. put up with no odometer/trip meter |

Its normally to capastiors inside in, they dry out, I fix these all the time, take it apart, and replace them its the two big brown ones at the end of the speedo board.
