Hey guys, last year i fell inlove with older merc's and bought myself a '83 500SEC as a quarter life crisis car 8-)

It's a 5.0 v8 pushing close to 200kw stock and has some serious balls for a car of its age. The SEC had around 132xxxkm's when i picked her up.

The car stayed relatively untouched until the mod bug bit and i had the resonator removed from the exhaust which let the twin system roar a lot louder and sound like a v8. I then installed a k+n filter.

Next up was to ditch the JVC CD player the previous owner had thrown in and replace it with an Alpine IVA-D105 dvd headunit and Fusion and Eclipse speakers all round to compliment the Alpine 4x75w amp and a Cadence monoblock to power 2x12" Pioneer subs.

Somewhere around that time i had the grille chromed and bought clear front indicators to modernize the front a bit.

The SEC then got a full Leatherique treatment which revitalized the leather and took me fricken ages!!

Everything was fine for a long time until the transmission died while i was out with my mates, $2.5k and weeks of hunting and i was back on the road. The driving bliss lasted all of 2 months before the ignition barrel seized at my mates house and i was up for $705 in parts and labour to replace the broken pieces and fending off his murderous parents who didn't like my car taking up all of the driveway space..

Somewhere around this time i bought new lenses for the taillights to brighten up the rear a bit.

Took the car down south a couple of weeks ago when i had annual leave and it was a dream to drive, smooth, responsive and on the highway very good on fuel.

Future plans are redoing the exhaust system, lowering the front end a bit more and finding a set of period correct Recaro seats and redoing the interior in red.

Nice ride man. I had a 79 merc dumped on bags for a while. Nice car, and they look cool dumped on suitable rims.

Yours has great power for a car that age too.

I was going to say! It looks way ahead of it's time. I really like it, can't wait to see the end results

Pity your license plates didnt read [1BUF-500], 'one buff 500' haha!

Maybe keep your eye out for one of those 6.9L merc V8's, although fuel consumption would be horrible. I'm pretty sure there was a 6.9L V8.

Yeah for sure there were 6.9's and 6.3's, for a while a merc was the fastest four door production car in the world apparently.

Frank, nah i'm leaving the headlight washers there, i like em plus if i removed them i'd have gaping holes over the front of my car lol.
