Depends what you want the car to do. The easiest swap would be an EB or later windsor. After that there is a bit more stuffing around with clearance issuses around the heater pipes where they coume out of the firewall. If you can get around those even a big block will fit. But it all comes down to how deep are your pockets and how chummy you are with your engineer.

Putting a V8 into a car not designed for one requires further structural support in the engine bay as well as an engineers certificate.
Be prepared to fork out the money if you intend to put in a V8.
Just put in the EFI 6 that came with the following XF update models. That had a standard 120fwkw ( I think ) and gives you something to play with in the future.

Yeah they might have had 120 or 121 fwKW when brand new but most of the stock injected XF's you see these days don't even come close to those sorts of power levels. Hell If mine still had 121kw I wouldn't even think of an 8 but mine barely idles. Even a 400 hp small block would idle smoother than mine. I have to keep my foot on the gas or it will die. It might be fun in a tough car but in a gutless wonder its f**k embarrasing.

What is your XF injected or carby xcabbi? sounds like you need a decent service and tune. My XF did that a couple of times and i got the stupid carby reconditioned and worked fine after that.

Its injected and every time i give it a good bootfull I spray oil onto my spark plugs. the engine has 270,000kms but the bottom end still seems fine. Just the top end that has me scratching my head.
