Hi guys, need some help. not sure what forum to post this in as i'm unsure if the problem is electrical, mechanical or something else. mods move if necessary.

i recently bought a 92 NC 5.0L fairlane cheap, i thought the inhibitor switch was stuffed as it wouldnt start, got all reds, no click, was like it goes when trying to start a car in park.
when i got it the bloke i bought it from started the car up by crossing the wires at the starter relay under the bonnet. i replaced the inhibitor switch with one that i know works and still have the same problem, so it may be something to do with the smartlock?? hope someone can help me out, thanks heaps.

Likely to be the smartlock module, its above the handbrake lever, behind the plastic.

As you hold the key in the cranking position, smack the dash just above the handbrake lever. If it starts, change the smartlock module. If it doesn't change it anyway, could still be it.

Just be sure to get the right one for your car.

Another way I have learnt to getthe car running when the smartlock stuffs up is to do the following.
Its crazy and seems stupid but it works most of the time.
Turn ignition on so reds are up.
Turn headlights on.
Hold key to start position
Whilst still holding the key to start turn the headlights off.
Car should start.
I used to laugh when I was told this by one of the boys at work , but he made me eat my words when he come down from home to work at 3 in the morning when my old EB Fairmont pile of crap wouldnt start and he got it running in 10 seconds after my hours worth of stuffing around with it.

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around!

haha f**k that would been safer than shorting across the fuse box with a stainless multi tool while turning the key, when I couldn't find the short, hahaha
